The Day We Finally Chanted For The Tireless Soul

Contributed by: Rummana Basit Mir

There are 365 days in a year, many of them are celebrated for a particular reason. 1st May is officially celebrated as The Labor day in Pakistan. It was officially acknowledged in 1972. This day is celebrated in the appreciation of the labor, his efforts and hard work that truly is the backbone for the development of a country’s economy. In fact, without this diligent labor, a country can’t prosper. In Pakistan, this day is a national holiday in all the sectors and many seminars are conducted to recognize the efforts of the laborers in the meantime looking for the ways to give them a better lifestyle.

Perceiving from the above discussion, some questions are to be answered practically:

  • Why is the laborer doing his labor even on the Labor day?
  • Why in a well organized seminars, any of the laborer is hard to see?
  • Why the lifestyle of a laborer is still wretched when the whole day is celebrated to acknowledge these great men’s efforts?

In addition, why do we really celebrate this day _ This Holiday?

These questions can be answered if only the ice around our hearts is finally melted.
Above board, isn’t it ironic that the labor in our country is living under the poverty level. The price of his whole day’s diligent work is not even worth a drop of his sweat. We all are very much aware of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) saying that “Pay the worker his wages before his sweat has dried” How many of us follow this teaching of our beloved Prophet? It breaks my heart to say that very few of us do. It is such a piteous fact that families of the workmen yearn for proper food and reliable shelter. Moreover, most brutally, the child of a laborer is born a laborer without any bright future. We don’t have the answer for the laborer’s family when one has silently disappeared under a mine and has never come back home.

The labor day is celebrated to respect the laborers and to give them their rights. It is clear to see how oblivious a laborer is of his rights when the whole nation is enjoying a holiday in their name while they do their day jobs.

We always accuse the government for it’s inaptness. Although it is important that the government should pay attention to this matter but where are we standing? And what are our responsibilities? What we really do on this day is to serve laborers with our empty words and hollow slogans; but let’s not this time, let us come out and hold a laborer’s hand, give him his daily wage and bring him to that session in which his rights are being declared. Make him aware of his rights so that he  could stand for them for the rest of his days. Let us kindle the light of hope on this day as we do need to remember “ This holiday has been brought to you by the blood, sweat and tears of the Labor Movement.”

Extremism leading Towards Dystopian World of Humans

Contributed by: Ramsha Mohsan

Are human means to spoil the peace? Do different religious faiths call us towards the destruction of the world?  Unfortunately, we “human beings” are doing so! Population of the world is flourishing day by day however, humanity; essence of life; is few and far between. What we focus on? We think we strengthen our relationship with God merely by offering religious obligations but it’s not so! Do we have any moral obligations towards other persons? Today’s man acrimony swamped his conscience.
Humans are the protagonist of all the creations of God. Our scientists are renowned; we are exploring the universe, conquering the moon and on the way towards other planets, knowing more facts about animals than we know about ourselves, know more about physical sciences, have imaginations and ideas for better lifestyle. But, somewhere in the way to progress and civilization we have lost ourselves as humans. We lost our purpose and meaning of being here, we believe we own the planet. Number of humans is increasing tremendously but all are without spirit of love. Recent survey demographics show that total number of humans is 7.4 billion estimated on August 2016*. The United Nations estimates, it will further increase to 11.2 billion in 2100*, out of this huge number there are only a few people who have soft corner towards God’s creation. Pages of history are glittered with matchless benevolent people such as Abdul Satar Edhi, Abraham Lincoln, Lady Diana and many more but, today such people are rare. Humans are changing devilish.
There exists thirst of blood in so called humans. Atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Brutality in Kashmir, bloodshed of Muslims in Syria, Burma, Yemen, Paris and Palestine. Terrorist attacks of 9/11 and Madina on 5th July 2016. Suicide bombing and terrorism in Pakistan killing 35,000 people including APS attack on 16 December 2014 show another cruel face of humans. In fact, humans are flawed, we are not afraid of aliens or monsters but we are afraid of humans!
As Thomas L. Friedman says that
“It is not about whales anymore, it’s about us.”
Increasing street crimes, murders, suicide attempts, child labor, harassing of women, trafficking, kidnaping and smuggling of women and children and corruption are the other factors which mars the peace of the society and makes earth a place not worth living. According to FIA figures, the agency secured conviction of up to 1730 traffickers/agents in the first 9 months of 2009.this figure makes an increase compared with convictions in 2006 and 2008 publically reported as 1448 and 1411 people respectively. The figure however significantly below the 5022 convictions reported for 2007 which seemed to have had an accelerated rate of trial and conviction*.
Would you think that people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki attain their initial position mentally and financially up till now? Had the children, mothers, wives, sisters and brothers of victims no aggression and grief? Are powerful and weak treated on equal basis? Is there use of merit and moral ways to attain success? Is justice and basic needs such as food, education and health facilities are equally available to all the citizens? Is there implication of laws on everyone? Is there respect of everyone and his opinion irrespective of his cast, creed and religion? In fact, the reasons of these happenings are deeply rooted in our social systems.
Misuse of power, authority and money to humiliate other people can cause violence and feelings of being inferior. Justice, education, health facilities, jobs, become a privilege rather than a right. Due to a large difference in social and wealth status, poor is becoming poorest and rich is becoming richest continuously. People invest most of the money on meaningless things while the others are lingering due to hunger and poverty. Illiteracy is another prominent factor every child is not going to school due to lack of resources, on the other hand jobs are spirit away using unfair means by ineligible candidates. For today’s politicians grasping money is something greater, more important, than Promoting innovative ideas, education and talent.
Maybe you think feelings as illusion because they cannot give you anything, but it is something superior then material things, because feelings make a man, human. Poverty and injustice is a slow and invisible killer which overcomes the good will and kind heart of human and destroys the balance of society. That is the point where religion, conscience, amity and faith vanishes and the only thing which remains is the love to one’s own survival. Man become harsh and become lethal when he is not given even the right to live. When a man continuously faces his rights to be swept off by one’s feet, given by God, he become barbarous.
To exclude such behavior from our society we have not to change the society, we just must change ourselves and our approach towards the social issues. People of a society have different school of thoughts and religions and have mystic relationship with God, how we treat the people depend on our faith and relation with God. As man is connected through feelings and relations so there is a need to respect and value everyone without discrimination.  Do not do that, to others, what you do not want others to do to you.
“We have the capability and responsibility, we must act before it is too late” (The Dalai Lama)
Everything is impossible until we make it possible; we must change ourselves, change our system and to treat others with equality. Inhumanity only comes when it is forced to come. Humanity and love of creation is the quiddity of all the religions. We must leave our success or failure on God, as He planned better for us. This will lead towards the economic and social development of Pakistan in the world.

Labour Day and its Importance

Contributed by: Fathima Ajmin Ali

Labour Day is a public holiday in Pakistan which is annually held on 1st May and it’s also known as May Day. Labourers and workers are the real heroes of every Nation. Labour Day are observed in most of the countries including Pakistan to recognize workers accomplishment and encourage social rights. Labour Day is patent by marches, rallies and employees. So labourers marches across Pakistan arrange seminars and rallies in which rallies leaders delivers speeches stress the importance of the Labour Day and the rights of the Labourers. The entire day pass by voices of the people and showing their slogans. Reported by timeanddate.com that Pakistan first Labour Policy was devised in 1972, in which May 1 was declared an official holiday. This policy was then formulated the creation of the Social Security Network, Old Age Benefit Schemes and Workers Welfare Fund. And it also reported by The Nation that Pakistan also became a member of the (ILO) right after its independence in 1947.The problem of Laborers can’t be resolved only by celebrating this day unless if measures are taken for their basic human rights, wellbeing and schooling conveniences. As we know there are millions of people who work in fields and workshops but they are not registered with any institution. And at last the rich enjoy the benefit of their labour. Most people also spend this holiday in games, sleep and other enjoyment but forgetting the rights of the Labourers and most importantly the Child labourers whose foremost need is education. So as a honest citizen of our country we must speak for Labours rights as to have a prosperous nation because we can only have a better nation only by the hard work of our Labours. As the quote of the greatest people say “Come forward as servants of Islam, organize the people economically, socially, educationally and politically and I am sure that you will be a power that will be accepted by everybody”
“Labour is the superior of  capital, and deserves much the higher consideration” by Abraham Lincoln”.

11 points of Kaptan, What's new in it?

Contributed by: Usman Raza Jolaha (Vice President, Positive Pakistan)

Ok, before you read further, just think and recall, have you ever seen any speech that much long in any recent jalsa? Have you ever seen such a huge crowd in last decades?

11 points that Imran khan gave in jalsa, which PTI called "the mother of all jalsas", the quastion arises here is that have you listned such a comprehensive and constructive speech ever before in decades? Which do not include any serious bashing and criticism on the opponents?
Some of the points from his speech were of great approach which are extremely important and those are:

▪Tax reforms
▪Tourism
▪Agriculture
▪Women empowerment

The other points are already part of his campaign.

Pakistan, since the beginning. have failed to implement tax reforms which is damaging the economy of country.
If we talk about tourism , Pakistan can attract a number of foreign tourists towards its beauty if proper attention is given to the places that our country have.
Khan quoted " Switzerland is a very small country but it's income is higher than the total income from the exports of Pakistan." So, Pakistan is far better than the Switzerland in beauty.
He also talked about agriculture and environment which other politicians oftenly discuss and talk upon. In both fields Pakistan needs to focus on emergency requirements  as we are far behind in agriculture from our neighbour countries India and China in terms of technology and smart forming. Environment is a common threat for the mankind at globe level and Pakistan ranks among top countries facing climate change badly.
Coming to the women empowerment, Our country needs some positive advancement to invest on women to empower 52% of population of Pakistan.
In a religious  ijtimah in Rawalpindi, Molana Tariq Jameel said "If only Karachi starts giving zakat there will be no poverty in Asia".
Khan can do work on this too because he has vast experience of charity work in establishing the SKMH that is now well acknowledged by US Joint Commission International.

These points, if implemented, including education, health care, corruption control, economy, employment, justice, federation and provincial reforms, can make Pakistan " Asian Tiger".
We all hope to make Pakistan, a great Pakistan by practically implementing these ideas. Our Khan have that charismatic and dynamic personality to complete this task.

Analysis of Imran Khan's speech in PTI’s historic rally at Minar-e-Pakistan

Contributed by: Naureen Fatima, Mission Holder, Positive Pakistan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Sunday,29th March warmly welcomed and thanked all the crowd ,who gathered to the iconic Minar-e-Pakistan to attend the speech of  Imran Khan, in Lahore. Starting with national anthem, Khan, PTI chairman Imran Khan outlined an 11-point reforms programme to usher in a new era of prosperity as he contemplates for the country after coming in power for a “Naya Pakistan”. Imran Khan vowed to fight till the last drop of his blood for the rights of Pakistanis. The summary of these points along with critical analysis are discussed below
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Db5H8FCWsAgyaqG.jpg:large

1. Education
No country can ever grow without ignoring the education.3.5 crore children are getting an education in government schools.50% of the budget of Punjab is being spent only in Lahore. It needs to be pondered that how many international universities have been established in Punjab in the past 10 years. Countries can’t develop on the basis of infrastructure investment. For the development of a state, you need to spend on human development. PTI will spend maximum investment on human development and especially on the education system of Pakistan.

2. Health
The reformation of the health system is the hour of the need. IK promised that he will build new hospitals for the poor and the people who wouldn’t need to worry about expenses and rich people wouldn’t need to go overseas for their treatment. He also promised for introducing a health insurance system with the name “Sehat Sahulat” card in all over Pakistan, which is already in practice in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is a very great initiative by Imran Khan, because health is the basic necessity for good quality of life. An only healthy nation can play its role in the development of its state.
3. Revenue generation
The most critical issue for the development of Pakistan is the generation of revenue to free the country from heavy debt. IK emphasized to transform the tax collection system in the country to get rid of from this huge debt from the previous governments.
4. Corruption
IK promised to strengthen NAB and FBR along with putting an end to money laundering and theft of public finance. Like the expulsion of 30 MPAs, he promised to eliminate corruption from the country. Also promised to not let anyone steal the public finance by advising the nation for their support against corrupt leadership. This is the one of the biggest dilemma faced by Pakistan as we have a weak economy and less resources but still the amount of daily corruption is in billions of rupees. If IK can significantly reduce corruption, then it would be a great service to Pakistan.
5. Investment
Imran Khan termed the overseas   Pakistanis as the biggest investment potential for Pakistan and also promised to reduce taxes on gas and electricity so our industry can compete with Indian products. These are all very valid points can provide Pakistan with much needed foreign investment and can make our industry competitive in international markets.
6. Employment
IK promised to boost tourism industry along with providing jobs to youth. It is also a good step for the youth empowerment and generation of revenues for the country.
Indeed tourism has great potential in Pakistan. If government facilitates this sector, then it can go a long way in improving the positive image of Pakistan along with reducing the unemployment rate.
7. Agriculture
Imran promised to improve the agriculture sector of the economy and the livelihoods of the farmers on urgent basis. They work the whole year and don’t receive any reward at the end of the year. This is a great step taken by IK in order to improve the agriculture sector, which is the backbone of Pakistan economy.
8. Federation
IK promised to strengthen federation by reducing the injustice to the smaller provinces.Pakistan will be a much stronger country with stronger provinces. The resources should be divided among provinces in a manner that all of them can prosper and there is no sense of favoritism among provinces from capital.
9. Environment
The Environment is the topmost priority of the party’s policy agenda. For the first time in the history, KP government took the initiative of BONN Challenge to plant 10 billion trees all over Pakistan. We also need to focus on the cleaning of rivers. As Pakistan is the 8th most vulnerable country to Climate Change, silviculture is the only adaption is the only adaptation to combat this global threat of Climate Change.
10. Police System
IK also highlighted the significance of judicial and police system. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, no judicial killing was observed. Police are depoliticized in the whole province. No victim of FIRs has also been observed in the province. This is a great initiative to establish justice for the welfare of the state.
11. Women Empowerment
This party has designed an extensive program for the empowerment of women. Women have played a great role in the nation formation. My mother has raised me patriotic and an honest person. No nation can rise to its glory unless your women are side by side you. So, this empowerment of women is really a great step for the welfare development of Pakistan.

SCO People's Forum for the Share Future of Mankind

Contributed by: Usman Raza Jolaha (Vice President, Positive Pakistan)
In the first and second week of April 2018, I went to attend The Shanghai Cooperation Organization People’s Forum co-organized by China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE) and The People’s government of Shanghai province on the theme of “Promoting regional peace and cooperation, Building a community with a scared future for mankind”.
After keen observation of my 12 days over there, I did analysis about existing and rising super powers i.e. USA and China, respectively. I have been able to differentiate remarkable & contrasting differences between these two leading states.

Starting from the population difference, China has currently 1.343 billion population whereas USA has 313 million. The GDP growth of China is 9.28 and that of USA is 1.71. The count of militants performing duties in USA is 1.5 million whereas it is 2.31 million in China.
China is not confronting other states like the way USA is. And it is not imposing its power on the other states despite of the fact that China is immensely greater in its landmass, population, GDP growth and militants.
USA is waging wars on the other states and selling weapons than, which are causing heavy mass destruction all around the globe.
On the other dimension of coin, if we observe China, It is promoting peace, globalization and welfare treaties with various states. OBOR and CPEC are the recent examples.
Now coming to SCO people’s forum, the main focus of this forum was the NGOs, that was put forward by remarkable efforts regarding modern international relations and these NGOs can play a vital and significant role in bringing stability and promoting multi polarization within the world. They emphasized on cooperation between government and NGOs at public and international level so that they come closer to each other’s culture and give respect to the religion, belief and norms of one another. SCO people's forum focused on sustainable development also to resolve traditional and non-traditional issues and poverty elevation in developing states were also the main point for discussion. These scrutinies, if invoked, will bring economic sustainability and prosperity in the region.
The proposed agenda on concerning issues regarding environment should have to be deemed as common threat around the globe. China’s policy will be contemplation as a way to opulence for the cooperation of SCO and will bring stability within the states.
